We're filming Sway Baseline in the lab.What it is
Sway is an FDA-cleared device that measures balance and core neurocognitive function — reaction time, impulse control, inspection time, and memory — through a short series of stance holds and on-screen tasks. Every FirstCall athlete has one on file: a personal baseline captured while healthy, so if a head injury ever happens there's a real "before" to compare against.
Why it matters
A head injury is judged against how an athlete normally performs, not against a chart of average kids. Without a baseline, a clinic is guessing at what's normal for that specific athlete. With one on file, a physician can see exactly what changed and by how much.
What to expect
A few balance stances and short on-screen tasks, about three minutes, done first thing before any other testing so fatigue never skews it. It's re-taken every season, since an old baseline hides real change just as much as no baseline does.
